Dynamic Leagues for Dynamic Teams

The Center Leagues

The Center hosts the region’s premier Men's, Women's, and Co-Ed adult volleyball leagues. Running Sunday through Thursday evenings, our divisions cater to every level of play; from recreational beginners to the most elite teams in the city.

How Our Leagues Work:

  • Dynamic Re-Tiering: Teams are placed in an initial tier at the start of the season. Every 3 to 5 weeks, teams are promoted or relegated based on their performance to ensure perfectly matched, highly competitive games.

  • Match Times: Games run between 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM, with teams alternating between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM timeslots. Each team receives two, 1 hour matches per night (Note: Based on registration volume, Sundays may feature an additional 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM block).

  • 16-Week Seasons: Our flagship Fall and Winter seasons guarantee 16 weeks of structured, uninterrupted play.

  • League Nights: Select your preferred night and format

Initial Team Placement

Returning Teams:

We value your history at The Center. If your team played in the previous season, we will do our best to seed you exactly where you entered the playoffs (e.g., if you finished as the 8th seed, you will start the next season in the 8th position).(Note: Please ensure you use the exact same team name during registration so we can track your standings!)

New Teams:

Available division slots are filled based on your requested skill tier and your registration date. We seed from the top down—starting by placing requested Elite teams into available Tier 1 spots, and working our way through to Recreational. Registering early is the best way to secure your requested starting position.

Earning Points

Co-Ed:

Teams will play 2 matches per night (each match is a best 2 out of 3 sets). Points are awarded based on match outcomes. (Note: Captains must record their scores at the end of the night. Unrecorded matches will be recorded as a tie, with points split evenly).

  • Win in 2 Sets:  3 Points

  • Win in 3 Sets:  2 Points

  • Loss in 3 Sets: 1 Point

  • Loss in 2 Sets: 0 Points

Men's/Women's

Teams will play 2 matches per night (each match is a best 2 out of 3 sets). Points are awarded based on match outcomes. (Note: Captains must record their scores at the end of the night. Unrecorded matches will be recorded as a tie, with points split evenly).

Re-Tiering

To guarantee fair, highly competitive matchups, our ecosystem evaluates and re-tiers leagues every 3 to 4 weeks. This gives your team enough time to play multiple opponents in your bracket before re-tiering.

  • Division Sizes: Depending on registration volume and court availability, Co-Ed tiers typically feature 8 to 12 teams, while Men's and Women's tiers feature 4 to 6 teams.

  • The Shift: At the end of each 3 to 4 week cycle, the top 2 to 3 teams based on the total number of points accumulated in that specific tier will be promoted to the next tier up, while the bottom 2 to 3 teams will move down a tier.

  • The Reset: Every time a re-tier occurs, all team points are wiped clean. Every team starts the new cycle with zero points, giving everyone an equal shot at the next promotion.

Tie-Breaker Rules

If teams are tied for a promotion or relegation spot at the end of a re-tiering cycle, their placement is decided by the following strict tie-breaker format, in order:

Two-Team Ties:

  • Total Points: Standings are primarily based on total accumulated points during the current cycle.

  • Head-to-Head: If two teams are tied in points, the higher rank goes to the team that won the direct matchup between them.

  • Original Seed: If the two tied teams never played each other during the cycle, the higher rank defaults to the team that was originally seeded higher.

Three-Way Ties:

  • Head-to-Head: If three teams are tied, only the points earned in matches played between those specific three teams will be counted to break the tie.

  • No Head-to-Head: If the three tied teams did not play each other during the cycle, the tie is broken based on the highest original seed.
